[Free Tutorial] DIY Fabric Pumpkin

August is half way done, I started seeing a lot of fall decorations showing up in stores!

The other day I went to a craft store and found nice pumpkins made by different kinds of fabric.

I put a couple of them in my hand and take a quick look and thought, "Hmm, maybe I can these!".

So I DID!  No pattern really, just went with the flow.
I really love how the first one turned out!!
This is really quick, probably it took 15~20mins to finish.

Thought this could be a fun project to do in your

spare time!
They could be great addition to your fall craft fair booth :)

Also, it doesn't require any accuracy, this is a perfect project for whos just started to learn hand-sewing.

My 3 years old daughter enjoys putting fiberfill inside. (And soaking cinnamon sticks.  It makes them easier to cut.)

I am excited to share how to make these easy and cute fabric pumpkins!
Please join us to make them and share with
#FabricPumpkinFest !

Here is the tutorial, enjoy!

How to make Fabric Pumpkin

Fabric Pumpkin about 5" diameter

Materials
・(1) square - 10" x 10" cut fabric.  I like to use my Layer Cake left over!
(1) 2"~2.5" sqr. felt piece for a leaf 5㎝×5㎝
Regular sewing thread and a needle (I like to use hand-quilting thread and a basting needle.)
A bundle of embroidery floss and a large eye, sharp point broidery needle.
・Polyester fiber filling

Put the fabric in flat, hold it in half triangle three times.

Then leaving the flaps on the top, fold in half.

Cut the top flaps off.

Open the fabric. It'll look like this, an octogen.

Make a knot on the end of the thread, sew along around the edge roughly 0.5" wide.  Gather the seam as you stitch.

Keep the thread in the needle during the next step.

Fill it with polyester fiber fill and close the seam.

Sew in rough running stitches around the seams as you put in filling and continue pulling the thread to close the seam narrower.

Once it is fully closed, make a knot and cut off the thread.

Place a mark on the center of the bottom. With embroidery floss, sew through from the top to the bottom mark.

Bring the floss around to the top.  Repeat the same process until you have 8 lines on the bottom.

When it is finished, make a knot on the top, cut the floss off.

The pumpkin may be very flat at this point.

To add more height, squish on a flat surface and roll it several times.

Now it looks more like it!

Pour glue on top, put a cinnamon stick in.

Cut the felt piece into a shape of a leaf, garnish its edge with small slits.

Put it next to the stem with glue.
Ta-da~~!  That's all!

You can use different fabric sizes!
Basically, pumpkins will come out about in the half size of fabric.

I use 15" x 15" fabric for this, came out in about 8" diameter.

Please share your fabric pumpkin on Instagram, using #FabricPumpkinFest & @misoquilty !

[Free Pattern] Toddler Drawstring Backpack

Summer break is over!

School started!!

I'm not the only mom who's excited about that, right?

Oklahoma has been so hot!! Over 100 F everyday, plus the humidity, it feels like much worth...

Kids seem they don't care, but for me that's a good reason to stay home and keep sewing and quilting, hehe.
One of the exciting thing happened during this summer is, our 3 years old girl started ballet lesson!

So I made her a small, todder size drawstring backpack, to carry her water bottle and a small snack, and a pair of dance shoes!

We picked up super cute Ballerina fabric and matching polkadots fabric for bottom accent.
 

I started making this in the early morning, before kids get up.  It took less than 2 hours to finish!

She was excited to see her finished backpack in the same morning!

This mini back could be a fun-fast sewing project for everyone, so I decided to share the How to make tutorial.  It's free!  Don't we love free patterns?  I DO!!

Here is the pattern & tutorial you can download as PDF.
Enjoy!!

{Easter Quilt} Golden Bunny Applique Quilt

I've been working on this Easter quilt for last 2 months,

It's finally finished!  Hooray!

Ta-da~!!  It's Golden Bunny Applique Quilt!

When do you feel like "Spring is here"?

I love when flowers are starting blooming, grass getting greener, and also when Lindt's Golden Bunnys are lined up at the Easter section at stores!

I love their cute round shape bunnies in classy goldren color wrap and they are so yummy!!
Ahh... I love Lindt's chocolate...

I wanted to make an another Easter quilt, and this one I wanted to enjoy all about pastel colors and bunnies, so here it is!

First I wanted to see how the applique will work, so I made this small wall quilt!

I thought it is pretty cute, I like it!

I found this golden stretchy vinyl-like fabric at local Walmart's remnant section.
Probably like $3 for a half yard.  Very economic!

Before I cut out it in to a bunny shape, I put light interfacing on the back of the golden fabric, so it won't stretch too much while I'm working on appulique.

I place the real Golden Bunny chocolate on the fabric, and traced around it on the freezing paper. (I can't find the picture, sorry!)  Using it as a template, I cut out the bunny shape from the golden fabric.

Snipped along the curb around the bunny 1/4" each or so.

I put Tacky Glue on the back of bunny, and place on the tops which it's already quilted.
Using rollers, paste it nice and flat...

Then start applique on the quilt.

Adding a ribbon around bunny's neck.

Ta-da~~!

For the 9 panel-quilt, I used the same template I made at the beginning.  In th esame method, this time I made the quilt top. Panels with bunnies, then pieced them together with sashing.

I did stippling quilt around the bunny.

I used this cute daisy flower template from Silesian Quilt.

And I LOVE how these daisies turned out on the outer boarder!!

I usually use cloth pins to hand the quilt at backyard, but it was too heavy and the win?d were so strong, they didn't hold the quilt enough.

So I go this 2.50 clearanced rod at Walmart, lol
 Looks good, yeah?

Of course our daughter joins to the picture time!

She has been into princess dress!! She has been wearing this Rapunzel dress every. single. days...

 Holding chocolate bunny <3

We are doing some gardening this spring!  In planters!  Moving-friendly lol.

And of course, the golden bunny was eaten by these little people...
 Peeled...
 Bitten...
Feast!!
"We ate it!!"

Happy Easter to all!!
